Volunteers needed for research project

23/06/2025

This research project is part of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme at the University of Essex. This study will take place between August 2024 and July 2026. Research has shown that public inquiries can have a range of impacts on participants. The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) had over 7300 survivors/victims engage in it. Over 6200 shared at the Truth Project which tried to provide participants with as positive an experience as possible. Participant testimony was considered by the Inquiry in making conclusions and recommendations. Some years on from giving testimony, after IICSA has made recommendations and the government has given a response, this project seeks to understand the longer term impacts of having given evidence, of survivor and victim responses to IICSA’s legacy, it’s recommendations and the responses to those recommendations. It is interested in the expectations around giving testimony and whether they have been met. This information is useful to for understanding the longer term impacts of public inquiries and inform future inquiries in their practice.
