Sexual offences definitive guideline

06/02/2014

Following consultation the Sentencing Council is publishing a new definitive guideline on sexual offences which will come into force on 1 April 2014.

The guideline is issued in accordance with section 120 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 and applies to all offenders aged 18 and over who are sentenced on or after 1 April 2014.

Crown Court - Definitive Guideline: Sexual offences

Update 10 - Magistrates’ Court Sentencing Guidelines

The definitive guideline covers a wide range of offences including rape and assault offences, offences where the victim is a child, indecent images, exploitation offences, offences against those with a mental disorder and other offences including exposure and voyeurism.

This guideline is the result of more than two years’ work engaging closely with those throughout the criminal justice system who deal with these offences on a daily basis: non-governmental organisations, the police, CPS and members of the judiciary. Their expertise has helped the Council shape the guideline and the Council is grateful for the views expressed through the consultation.
