Victims Commissioner
20/08/2019
Using data provided by Essex Rape and Sexual Abuse Partnership, the Victims Commissioner has analysised the reasons why victims withdrew sexual offence complaints.
Based on the SynergyEssex administrative dataset of sexual offences reported to the police between January 2016 and June 2019.
Victims were asked to identify the reasons for withdrawing their complaints from a list of eighteen reasons. Nearly all the 521 that analysed were complaints reported to the police between 2014 and 2019 (93%).
For the over 4,500 complaints reported to the police by victims using our services, there was no further action taken by the police for 36% of reported sexual offences, whilst 12% of complaints were sent to the Crown Prosecution Service for decision.
